Second Community and Mission Conversation
50 church and charity leaders from across BCP and wider Dorset united to explore how, together, we can strengthen our local communities.
The second Community and Mission Conversation was hosted at Moorlands College. The follow up event provided the opportunity for church leaders and charities, from a wide range of backgrounds, to make new connections and spark fresh ideas on sharing faith and addressing critical issues being faced in our conurbation.
Themes included addressing isolation and loneliness, as well as building confidence with supporting people around their spiritual journey. This included taking The Faith Sharing Quiz to discover which of the six faith sharing profiles best describes each person.
Inspired by Isaiah chapter 58 and the book of Nehemiah, our CEO Alistair, explored the theme of repairing broken walls and restoring streets with dwellings. He challenged everyone to consider what broken walls are in front of us that we need to work on.
Sabine threw down the creative lego challenge to help teams visualise what rebuilding local community could look like.
One leader encouraged everyone that only as we come together can we bring about change:
“I think the only people who can do this are Faithworks… we cannot do this as individual churches.”
The sharing of ideas at these Conversations is one way this is starting to happen. Such as the bouncy castle ministry – one church shared how they contact local schools to offer free entry to families in receipt of free school meals. Needless to say this has proved to be extremely popular!
“We’ve got lots of great ideas… we’re going to put some of these things into practice in our church over the next few months. And really looking forward to getting back together again in six months time.” – Adam, Pastor, Poulner Baptist Chapel
