Lone Parent Families Explore National Trust Brownsea Island

SMILE single parent families had a wonderful time at National Trust Brownsea Island last week for a day full of fun, exploration and play!

Feeling adventurous, SMILE families took the ferry over to Brownsea Island to explore the area. Together they discovered the wonders of nature that can be found there – red squirrels, peacocks, and even a couple of pigs that have recently been introduced to the island to help manage bracken.

They also enjoyed the summer games, crafts and nature activities on offer, including a nature trail that involved finding acorns, pinecones, and leaves. They were fortunate to see the Bee Circus, who let the children hold and stroke large, animatronic bee models to help them become more comfortable with these incredible insects.

Surrounded by stunning scenery, amazing animals, and wonderful wildlife, the families had the opportunity to come together and have fun, away from the stresses of daily life. When the summer holidays put so much pressure on families, especially those with single parents, being able to enjoy days like these are a much-needed respite.

A huge thank you to National Trust for facilitating this amazing opportunity!
