Community Garden Feature in BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair
Wimborne Community Garden have been chosen to exhibit their show design at the BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair, and they need your help to make their incredible design a reality!
Hosted in the stunning grounds of Beaulieu, the “Beautiful Borders” entry has been designed to demonstrate the power of local people coming together to transform a simple patch of grass into an abundant community garden, open to everyone.
Following the exhibition the garden will be transported to Beaucroft Foundation School for the young students and staff to benefit from their own miniature community garden. But we need the help of our wonderful local communities to help us fund the build and produce an excellent garden for Beaucroft Foundation School.
Community is at the heart of the showpiece illustrating how cultivated, shared spaces can provide a safe space to form new friendships, combat loneliness, and grow new gardening skills. A place where people can come together despite their differences and find common ground.
The Beautiful Borders section of the Gardeners’ World fair has been created to inspire ideas on how to fit the most into a garden, and the theme for this year is “Once upon a time” – showcasing how even the smallest green space can develop into a place that tells a story, connecting past to present, and dreams to reality.
Jane coordinates Wimborne Community Garden, explained: “Once upon a time there was a blank patch of grass and a group of ordinary people with an extraordinary dream. Through teamwork and community spirit, Wimborne Community Garden was created.
The “happy ever after” we hope for is for every community to have their own garden – a safe place to connect and share the therapeutic effects of a green space.”

Volunteer Janet shared how the garden has impacted on her life: “I moved to Wimborne in August 2022, I didn’t know anyone in the town until I started helping at Wimborne Community Garden, where I have made some really lovely friends. It is a fabulous place, everyone is so friendly, it’s such a happy, caring garden.”

We know the students will love having a garden that has been on BBC Gardeners’ World! The garden is all about the power of community and we would be so grateful if you could help us make this fairytale a reality – simply donate via our JustGiving page below.
The BBC Gardeners’ World Spring Fair will take place between 1-3 May 2026 at Beaulieu, Hampshire.
