Preventing Homelessness: Prince William Visits Bournemouth
When Prince William stepped onto Bournemouth Pier on 19th March, the focus was clear from the outset.
This was not a ceremonial visit. It was about listening, learning, and understanding what is making a difference on the ground.
Youth Homelessness Across BCP
Across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, too many young people are still at risk of falling through the gaps.
Disengagement from education, unstable housing, and limited access to early support can quickly escalate. Without the right intervention at the right time, short-term challenges can become long-term crises. For many, the future feels uncertain before they have had a fair chance to shape it.
Through the Homewards programme, led by Prince William, a more connected approach is taking shape.
Collaboration Across BCP
Local partners are working together through the BCP Youth Homelessness Board, bringing education, housing, health, and community organisations into one joined-up effort. The aim is straightforward: spot risk earlier, respond together, and create clear, practical routes forward.
During the visit, this approach was brought to life. Conversations on the pier, insights from young people with lived experience, and examples from schools all pointed to the same conclusion. Early intervention works best when it is collaborative and consistent.
Faithworks knows first-hand the impact of this collaborative approach, as we have been partnered with Homewards since 2023 launch. We are excited to see the youth focus of this programme as it progresses, and look forward to playing our part as it develops.
“This is how true change is achieved: people coming together, sharing skillsets and vision to create practical, person‑centred solutions.” – Rob Cox, Arch Training Development Manager
The visit was a reminder of what’s possible when people work together. With early support, practical guidance, and clear pathways, young people can take confident steps forward. The focus now is on keeping that momentum going and seeing more lives change for the better.
